Brief description of Organisation:
BASF SE (Societas Europeae) and the headquarters of BASF are based in Ludwigshafen, Germany. BASF is the world’s leading chemical company. With over 95,000 employees, six Verbund sites and close to 400 production sites worldwide we serve customers and partners in almost all countries of the world. In 2007, BASF posted sales of Euro 58.0 billion and income before special items of approximately Euro 7.6 billion.
The BASF portfolio comprises chemicals, plastics, performance products, functional solutions, oil and gas and agricultural solutions.
In this project the agricultural solutions segment is involved. BASF Agricultural Solutions aims to sustain its role as a leading innovator by continuing its extensive research and development activities. In order to help its consumers to deliver better products (for feeding or energy), BASF Agro-solutions is always searching for new products. In this field the nature itself represents a large source of new compounds. Those resources correlated to traditional medicine or agriculture knowledge are a very attractive way to find new active ingredients.
Since several decades BASF is engaged in the agrochemical research and has already several helpful compounds for the farmers in its portfolio (for example the fungicide F500 issued from our research). BASF has also a strong experience in the field of agricultural products, from the discovery until the commercialization, through natural products extraction, screening, advanced screening, formulation, toxicology study, marketing etc.
Over the years the screening system in all three indications (fungicides, insecticides, herbicides) has been improved and mostly automated. This particular knowledge and capacity will be used in this project in order to identify new active compounds directly extracted from the natural sources.

Short Profile of Staff and relevant experience:

  • Delphine Breuninger, PhD, more than 3 years experience in agricultural research (chemistry), responsible for natural products for agricultural solutions.
  • Franz Roehl, PhD over ten years experience in screening for agrochemicals.
  • Fank Schieweck, PhD, more than 5 years experience in agrochemicals, responsible for contact with external partners for Agricultural research.
